Abstract: In order to preserve a monument for the generations to come there has to be carried out a continuous maintenance under expert supervision. Using the example of the court house at the town hall of Luneburg first steps for an upkeep and maintenance concept will be developed. There occurs a survey of condition and damage of the wood panelling and its polychromatic painting on the walls and ceilings. The indoor climate as well as the action of light will be analysed for an assessment of the condition and the causes. Subsequently the danger caused by dirt deposits will be dealt with. Furthermore already taken steps of protection will be pointed out. As a result of the analysis first recommendations for an upkeep and maintenance concept will be pronounced.
